Touché Cafe is here and it’s Hip

Yes new cafes and restaurants keep arriving in Pererenan. And all are welcome, unless we become another overdeveloped town.

Touché has the right look: gleaming white surfaces, spaces in the wall for cool art, black steel doors, and an inviting vibe.

So, what about the food? Well… for both my wife and I it was a disappointment. I ordered a Mexican burrito with chorizo.

In Europe, chorizo is a fermented, cured, smoked sausage, which may be sliced and eaten without cooking, or added as an ingredient to add flavor to other dishes. Elsewhere, some sausages sold as chorizo may not be fermented and cured, and require cooking before eating. Spanish chorizo and Portuguese chouriço are distinctly different sausages, despite both getting their smokiness and deep red color from dried, smoked, red peppers (pimentón/pimentão).

I’m not a hardcore foodie but when my dish arrived the chorizo was not there, and in its place was a hot dog.

Admittedly the photo makes it hard to see the hot dog, but you’ll have to trust me. Being an American, I know what a hot dog is. And having lived in California I know what chorizo is, although frankly I didn’t know the origin of the sausage was from the Iberian Peninsula.

I was more than a little disappointed. I shared most of the hot dog with Twinky, our mini Pomeranian, and it should be said that she was not disappointed in the least.

My wife had nasi goreng (fried rice) with pork belly, and unfortunately it was too salty.

There may be some excellent food options at Touché but we, hopeful and perhaps naively optimistic, struck out.
